We All Need a Little Color in Our Life…
Choosing the right color palette for your home can be overwhelming. One of the toughest things to do is select a paint color or colors for your home whether it’s interior or exterior or both! With thousands of paint colors out there, in a variety of sheens which one is right for your home?

A little bit about color…
Color is the design element that has the most impact on your senses and mood. Color sets the tone in a room. Warm colors, like neutrals, golds, and yellows are inviting, happy and cozy. Color hues like green and purple can make a person feel pleased, relaxed and even queenly. Some colors are vivacious and energetic while others are much more relaxing and calming. Some colors work better for some rooms than others–red is great in a room for socializing and yellow is up lifting so it’s a great choice for a kitchen. Paint colors can also change depending on the light in a room. Before you do anything, check on what direction your room faces. For north-facing rooms use warmer colors or rich dark colors; south-facing rooms look good in softer, cooler hues; east-facing rooms choose a warmer palette, west facing rooms look best with cooler paints. And, consider the purpose of your room and take the time to think about how you want to feel in that room. Even if the color you want goes against the “rules” of which color should be used in a specific space, the most important thing is that you’re happy with it.

Now on to the finish…
Once you find the right color, you need to select a finish. The most common interior paint finishes are flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, and high-gloss. Choosing the right paint finish for your interior project depends on the look, durability, and ambiance you want. Flat is opaque and sophisticated but doesn’t clean well. Eggshell is often used for decorative finishes because it provides a low luster. It cleans up better than a flat finish. The most popular paint sheen is a satin finish. It has more sheen than eggshell or satin and cleans better too. This finish is a good choice for woodwork, walls, doors, and hallways A semi-gloss paint will give your room a subtle shine. It’s scrubbable and good for moldings, doors, windows, kitchens, and baths. A high-gloss finish has a shiny, polished look. It’s also stain resistant and very scrubbable, which makes it a good choice for the areas of a home that get the most wear and tear, such as kitchens and baths.
